The following activities are planned with school and college students, centered around the Transit of Venus. (Details will be added shortly)

Analemma activity - at the simplest level, using gnomons - or more sophisticated methods if students have the required equipment - one year of activity - starting anytime.

Recreating Earth radius measurements - with error analysis. Interesting days to do this would be February 28th the National Science Day or the Spring Equinox.

Venus Elongation measurements - (March & April) - This will be an exciting opportunity to use the Jayaprakash Yantra at the Jantar Mantar to measure the maximum elongation of Venus.

Sunspot observations and trying to measure the rotation rate of the Sun - locating the sunspots in terms of Sun's latitude and longitude. Not directly related to the Transit, but, will be a useful activity to do, in order to appreciate locating features on the disk of the Sun.

Measurement of Geographical Co-ordinates

Timing Practice

Finally, Transit observations.
